A serious message at BV Dairy’s stand at this year’s Shaftesbury Food and Drink Festival
2019 sees two teams of staff from BV Dairy undertake a triathlon style challenge. The event includes an 8km cross country hike, a 10km canoe row and a 30km bike ride. Teams have to navigate their way around the gruelling course collecting points and avoiding time faults and could well be competing for up to 10 hours AND this all takes place on Exmore – not the most hospitable of areas.
Why you say – well charity helps! To join in this fundraising event BV Dairy had to undertake to raise cash for a charity of their choice and – in 2019 Colleagues at BV Dairy voted to support The Stroke Association. It wasn’t a difficult decision as several members of the team had recently been directly affected by stroke in one way or another.
Fund raising has been ongoing since January with car washing sessions, breakfast baps, skittles evenings and cake sales, etc. and culminates at this year’s Shaftesbury Food and Drink Festival where staff and volunteers from The Stroke Association will be on hand offering information and blood pressure checks as part of the ‘Know Your Blood Pressure’ campaign. Listen to what some of the Team have to say on This is Alfred.
BV Dairy and The Stroke Association are joining forces to help raise awareness of one of the biggest risk factors for stroke: high blood pressure. They are inviting anyone visiting the Festival to take a moment to get their blood pressure checked and find out more about the ‘Know Your Blood Pressure’ campaign. More than half of all strokes can be caused by high blood pressure and it is estimated that over 5 million people across the UK do not realise they have the condition, let alone what their normal reading is.
Fun things will be happening too. There will be exercise equipment on the stand so you can see how a short cycle can affect your heart rate or race your mates (against the clock). If you can’t attend the show but would still like to show your support for BV Dairy and The Stroke Association please donate via Just Giving.
BV Dairy will also be launching Millie’s next photographic competition giving youngsters a chance to win family tickets to this year’s Gillingham and Shaftesbury Show with a cream tea at the BV Dairy Marquee. There will also be an opportunity to sample products including a delicious locally made scone served with Award Winning Dorset Clotted Cream and jam – a true West Country tradition. What’s not to enjoy – see you there.
